New Release Dates for Star Wars IX, Indiana Jones 5, Frozen 2 and The Lion King

Today Disney dated three of its biggest 2019 releases, Star Wars: Episode IX, The Lion King and Frozen 2, and then proceeded to delay Indiana Jones 5 to 2020.

Until now we didn’t actually have a release day for Star Wars: Episode IX, just a year, 2019. Well the day will be May 24th 2019, only 18 months after The Last Jedi. Also this confirms that starting with the still untitled Han Solo movie Star Wars has left the December slot for good. That is unless they fall behind schedule on Episode IX and push it to December 2019. It could happen.

Jon Favreau’s new The Lion King remake is as expected coming just in time for the original’s 25th anniversary, July 19th 2019. Technically that anniversary would be on June 15th, which is probably when they’ll have the world premiere (or something along those lines, maybe a special re-release of the original).

Frozen 2 is coming November 27th 2019, exactly 6 years after Frozen‘s wide theatrical release. Love it or hate it Frozen was a huge hit for Disney and hopefully they’ll do good by their fans with a worthy successor.

And here comes the bad news, Indiana Jones 5 was pushed back a year from July 19th 2019 (now taken by The Lion King) to July 10th 2020. If you can believe it at that point Harrison Ford will be almost 78. Here’s hoping if they plan to make a 6th one, they won’t wait another 12 years. Playing Indiana Jones at 90 might be too much even for Harrison Ford.

Lastly while I didn’t mention it in the title it’s worth noting that Ralph will now break the internet a couple months later in his sequel to Wreck-it Ralph. The new release date for Ralph Breaks the Internet is November 21st 2018 instead of the previously announced March 9th 2018.
